I’m the person you call when everyone else has given up because it was too hard.
That’s me, Glyn Shepherd, Director and Chief CAD wrangler, at CCMS.
My superpower is being able to take what’s in your head, or project spec and show you what it looks like, using Computer Aided Design to produce a nice bit of CGI, a polished drawing or even a 3D model.
At school, I would never have guessed that doodling logos would lead to a career I was so passionate about. That my problem-solving skills would make me the go-to person when there’s a problem with the plans. Or that I’d be able to point out all the bits in Star Wars that made use of CAD.
This is the interesting thing about CAD.
It creates something using your ideas and my 25 years of experience. You tell me all about your concept. Using a computer, lots of lines and my skills, I can bring it to life, show you how it can work and generate a solution to your problem.
The final piece I produce could be a technical drawing for a large engineering project, accurate architectural plans for a home extension or a novel piece of graphic design. It’s great when people see what I’ve done and say ‘That’s what it looks like.’
Learning CAD is similar to learning to play a musical instrument (in my case, bass guitar*). Everyone starts out thinking it’ll be really cool. Then you find out that you can only get there by practice and hard work. Fortunately, my neurodiverse brain is wired to be tenacious. For you, that means I take the time to work through, solve the problem and make your project work.
When it’s resolved I can sit back, listen to some music with a glass of Jack and look forward to my next project (it could be yours).
Working with me
It’s pretty straightforward. I listen, apply my technical knowledge, and then I design and bring your concept to life. So, there you go. I do what it says on the nicely designed virtual label. I deliver your CAD projects and you don’t have to just take my word for it – go and have a look at my testimonials.
*One of my most exciting and nerve-wracking experiences was playing bass at a festival in front of 5,000 bikers. I had the stage to myself, a long-complicated bass intro and loads of cables trying to trip me up! Did I pull it off and look like a rock star? See the photos below. By comparison, CAD is a breeze.
